Is Mattia Binotto Ruining Ferrari

Ferrari is widely recognized as the best racing team ever. However, 2020 has proven to be a pretty bad season for them, even though we are only 2 races in. Charles Leclerc somehow secured second place in the opening round of the season, but the second race saw a double retirement for Ferrari. Mattia Binotto is has a lot of experience and definitely worked very hard to be in the position he is in today, but is he the man that can bring Ferrari back to all it's glory, or will he ruin it?

Mattia Binotto was born in Lausanne Switzerland, but doesn't represent the Swiss flag. Both of his parents are Italian, hence his love for Ferrari. Binotto obtained degrees in Mechanical Engineering at a bachelors' level at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 1994 and later a Masters degree in Motor Vehicle Engineering at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. In 1995 he joined Scuderia Ferrari  as a test engine engineer. Mattia stayed in this role for 9 years before he was promoted in 2004 to race engineer for Rubens Barrichello. Mattia kept doing his best and in 2007, he was promoted again to Chief Engineer for Ferrari. Mattia kept proving himself to Ferrari and raced up the ranks until 2016 when he was made Chief Technical Officer. In 2017 and 2018, Mattia kept engineering cars that were right up the gearbox of the dominant Mercedes cars. On January 7, 2019, Mattia was finally appointed team principle replacing Maurizio Arrivabene.

So now the question that you have all been waiting for, is Mattia Binotto the right man for Ferrari, or will he ruin it? To answer this question we have to dive down deep, into the Ferrari team, and car. Ferrari have a high budget from both sponsorships, and the Ferrari company itself. The sponsorship income is double of what Mercedes's sponsors give them, and if you don't know Mercedes are the BEST team! Mercedes get $165,000,000 while Ferrari get $285,000,000! In terms of resources and money, Ferrari should be the best team! They have got high tech factories, and a LOT of support. In 2020, they look like they are even slower than the top teams of the midfield, such as Racing Pointe and McLaren! They haven't won a constructors championship in 12 years but they have everything they need to win one! Definitely, there is something going with team which is causing them to fail. So what is it? In my opinion, it's the staff, INCLUDING Mattia Binotto. To fix this (in my opinion) Ferrari needs a good leader and a diverse staff that can bring the team forward. Ever since Ferrari appointed Mattia Binotto as the Team Principle, they had no Chief Technical Officer. The Chief Technical Officer is basically the person who is in charge of upgrades and mechanical problems. So Mattia took over both roles of team principle and chief technical officer, which has to be stressful. I think that Mattia is better at being a chief technical officer. My thoughts was they should never have dropped former team principle Arrivebene, he put up two title challenging runs in 2017 and 2018, but they both just started to fall apart post Summer Break, but with two younger talents post 2020, that can be more consistent. I feel bringing back someone like Arrivebene, who had a much better title run than Binotto, could be good for Ferrari. In the end, I think that ultimately, it's Mattia Binotto's fault that Ferrari is failing. As I wrote before, Ferrari needs a good leader and staff that can bring the tam forward and back to it's glory.
