The Greatest American Imperialist
Theodore Roosevelt, better known as Teddy Roosevelt, is possibly the greatest American imperialist. He had a big role in expanding America's role in the world. This was important to America, it would boost the nation's pride and show other countries that the US is a superpower.
Did you know that Teddy helped negotiate peace between Russia and Japan in wartime. He invited representatives to a peace conference in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The resulting treaty declared Japan the winner. Never before had US president help settle a war it was not involved in.
Theodore Roosevelt also built the Panama Canal. Roosevelt wanted US ships to be able to travel quickly between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. This helped America's military and businesses. The 50 mile long canal shortened the length of the trip from the East Coast to the West Coast by about 8,000 miles. It also made the trip safer.
When tensions between Japan and the US escalated, Teddy sent 16 newly built battleships on a tour around the world. This showed other countries the American military strength and determination.
Theodore Roosevelt helped the American Nation a lot. He completely made the American pride skyrocket and proved to other countries that they are strong. He is definitely one of the best American imperialist.
