The Battle of Verdun
THE BATTLE OF VERDUN
The battle of Verdun took place in 1916, during World war 1. The western front was still stalemated. Italy had not wanted to join the central powers 6 months earlier, and joined the Allies. It had only gained little land after 4 battles against Austrio-Hungary. In February 1916, the Germans decided to make a move. They surprise attacked French forces at Verdun, a very fortified fortress in North Eastern France. After 6 months, The French were still there, defending Verdun. The battle of Verdun is one of the bloodiest during the war. Before the battle ended, both sides had lost half a million troops.
